The iCostume App was the first costume continuity app the Apple App store. I began a digital revolution in the Irish film industry, by introducing the use of iPads on set. My time and cost saving idea took off and so did the sales of the app!
Continuity notes were still being recorded manually using a pen and paper and digital cameras and shared across 3 countries by scanning and emailing or fax.I bought my first iPad in 2011 and discovered there was NO app for costume continuity! I was determined to create a solution to solve the problem for my team and I and put an end to very long overtime hours.
I began working on the app in 2012, my crew tested it on the series I was designing at the time. When the app was officially released I approached my Producer about buying iPads for the costume team. iPads were still a luxury item! .
With the help of Head of Finance on the production, we gathered details about what was spent on previous seasons on digital cameras, photo printed and photo paper alone. It was simple math; the iPad resulted in huge savings for the production on paper alone! Not to mention the overtime.
