Working as a Costume Designer at the national television broadcast station RTE, often brings with it the responsibility of representing Ireland on the world stage. I designed the costumes for the the inaugural Eurovision Dance Contest in 2007. Team Ireland placed 3rd in Europe.
Unlike designing costumes for actors, designing for dancers is less about the characters back story and more about functionality and looking spectacular.
The brief for the Irish dance costumes was to move away from tradition, while keeping the look classy and elegant. For inspiration, I researched the 1920’s art deco silhouettes.
